Federer breezes past Hewitt in Rogers Masters quarters

08/10/2007 - Montreal, QC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Top-seeded and defending champion Roger Federer continued his dominance over Lleyton Hewitt on Friday, winning in straight sets in the quarterfinal round of the $2.45 million Rogers Masters -- the sixth of nine Masters Series events this year.

The world No. 1 Federer had little trouble ousting the Australian Hewitt, 6-3, 6-4 on Day 6. Hewitt owned a 7-2 record in his first nine meetings with Federer, but the super Swiss has taken their last 10 encounters.

The reigning Wimbledon, U.S. Open and Australian Open champion Federer defeated France's Richard Gasquet in last year's Rogers Masters finale in Toronto. This event alternates between Montreal and Toronto each year.

Federer also captured this event in Toronto in 2004 and has now won his last 15 matches in Canada.

Up next for Federer is surging Czech Radek Stepanek, who upset fourth-seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko, 6-4, 7-5. Stepanek captured a U.S. Open Series event in Los Angeles three weeks ago.

In later quarterfinal action on Friday, third-seeded Novak Djokovic will take on fifth-seeded Andy Roddick and second-seeded Rafael Nadal will meet Frank Dancevic.

Roddick notched the 400th match win of his ATP career by beating Marcos Baghdatis in the second round.

The 2007 Rogers Masters titlist will collect $400,000.
