Hearn keeps lead at South Georgia Classic

04/23/2010 - Valdosta, GA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - David Hearn shot a three-under 69 to remain on top Friday after two rounds of the Nationwide Tour's South Georgia Classic.

Hearn, who carried a three-stroke lead into the round, finished 36 holes on the Kinderlou Forest course at 11-under 133 for a two-shot lead over Jason Kokrak (67).

He set a new tournament scoring record for 36 holes, breaking the old mark by two strokes.

Michael Putnam (68) and Tag Ridings (69) were four shots back at seven-under 137, while Jhonattan Vegas (66) and Ewan Porter were tied at 138.

Chasing his second Nationwide Tour win, Hearn is riding a hot streak that included a runner-up finish at last week's Fresh Express Classic.

He lost to Kevin Chappell by a stroke last Sunday after holding the second- and third-round leads.

"I'm playing with confidence and it's just a matter of being patient and waiting for my opportunities to come," Hearn said Friday after making four birdies and a bogey to protect his lead.

Hearn's only Nationwide Tour win came at the 2004 Alberta Classic. He also captured a victory on the Canadian Tour that season.

The 30-year-old Canadian has enjoyed being in contention the last two weeks, saying it's been a while since that happened to him. He said the nervousness that comes with being in contention hasn't gone away, it's just a matter of dealing with it.

"I've worked on that over the years," said Hearn. "When you get into the lead you learn your tendencies and most guys get a little quick and I get a little quick sometimes.

"Over the years I've worked on it. When I have a shot that I need to hit, or a putt, I just slow myself down consciously a little bit so I'm at the same pace I would be normally. A few deep breaths when you're walking, they always help."

So does having only five players within five shots of your lead.

NOTES: Bob May, who lost a playoff to Tiger Woods at the 2000 PGA Championship, shot a 71 and leads a five-way tie at five-under 139...The cut line fell at one-over 145 with 72 players moving on to the weekend...2009 champion Garth Mulroy is playing the PGA Tour this year.
